Macon County Health Department Announces New Sharps Disposal Drop Box to

Promote Safe Needle Disposal

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) is pleased to announce the installation of a new sharps disposal drop box. The sharps disposal drop box can be found outside of the main entrance at 1221 E. Condit St. The sharps disposal drop box provides a safe, accessible, and environmentally responsible way for the community to dispose of used needles and other sharps. This initiative aims to reduce health risks associated with improper needle disposal and enhance public safety.


The new sharps disposal box is available 24/7 and provides a secure and convenient option for individuals who use injectable medications or require safe disposal of sharps. Additionally, community members in need of a container for proper sharps disposal can visit the MCHD during business hours to receive a free container.


Items accepted include:

  • Needles
  • Syringes
  • Lancets
  • Infusion Sets
  • Connection Needles/Sets
  • Auto Injectors (Epi and Insulin Pens)


All items must be in a container before disposing into the drop box. Community members seeking more information about the sharps disposal drop box or proper disposal practices can call 217-423-6988 and choose option 2
